PTA Membership

There are many benefits to your family, our school and the Churchill cluster if you join the Bells Mill Elementary School PTA. We are a stronger community when all families participate in the PTA. The PTA is a great way for parents, teachers and staff to enrich the experience of all out students. Being a member of the PTA allows you to be involved within the school community. Parent involvement is a key factor in your child’s educational success.

A membership to the PTA costs $25 per family. Your membership fee includes the following:

  • Voting rights on all matters related to the Bells Mill ES PTA, including where PTA raised funds should be spent.
  • One print copy of the Bells Mills ES School Directory
    • Unlike the A to Z mobile app, the print directory allows you to view class rosters, the complete school calendar, and provides easier access to parent and staff contact information.
  • Two votes in PTA legislative activities
  • Membership to Montgomery County PTA (MCCPTA), Maryland PTA (MDPTA) and the National PTA
    • Mandatory dues for these organization are $10.50 per family, which are taken out of the membership fee. Please Note: MDPTA is considering raising the PTA dues. If this happens for 2019-2020, the total dues paid to MCCPTA and MDPTA will be $13.50 per family.

The rest of your PTA membership fee (approximately $15) goes directly to supporting ALL staff and students (not just PTA members) through PTA sponsored activities. We help provide programs, supplies, equipment and technology requested by staff to enhance the curriculum at Bells Mill. We also support activities that enhance your child’s educational experience, including Cultural Arts Assemblies, International Night, Science Fair, Model UN, and Geography Bowl. The PTA also sponsors a number of community building events like the Back-to-School Picnic, Talent Show, Bells Mill Bash and more.

Monies raised through the membership fee only cover about 15% of the costs for programs, supplies and activities covered by the PTA. That is why donations and fundraising are such a vital part of supporting the PTA and Bells Mill ES.

Each year, only about half of Bells Mill ES families become PTA members but we would love to see more families join!

Make a donation

The PTA is has a running direct donation campaign to raise $25,000 in operating funds for the 2018-19 school year. We have raised money this way for the past few years, and thanks to you and our amazing community of supporters, the PTA has had great success making sure our students and community are thriving.

We hope to have another successful campaign this year, and to accomplish this $25,000 goal, we are asking you to please give what you can!

Checks can also be made payable to the Bells Mill PTA and sent to the Bells Mill main office.

As the BMES PTA is a tax-exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, donations are tax-deductible and 100% of your donations go to help our children and our school. Receipts can be provided upon request, and all contribution information will be kept confidential.

Did you know that you might be able to double your donation… at no cost to you? Ask your (or your spouse’s) Human Resources department whether they offer a corporate match program for charitable giving. Every dollar counts! Why not make yours count twice?

Spirit Wear

Purchase Spirit Wear for your Bells Mill students and their siblings and the adults in their lives. They are perfect for Spirit Fridays and ideal for class field trips for both the students and the chaperones. Show your support for Bells Mill by wearing Spirit Wear any day of the year!

In the fall, the PTA publishes its annual directory of students and distributes it to PTA members. The directory is a vital resource used throughout the school year. Therefore, ads placed in the directory are viewed year-round! In addition, an ad in the directory shows our community that your business supports our school! AtoZ Directories will be helping us this year with ad sales and directory printing. Purchase goods and services from vendors who support the PTA

Numerous businesses provide financial support to the PTA when you patronize their establishments. When you patronize a business that advertises in the Bells Mill Calendar or the Student Directory, remember to mention that you saw their ad.
