MLK Day of Service Activities for All Ages

Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a national day of service with
lots of opportunities for people of all ages to serve our community locally
throughout the holiday weekend, most of them preapproved for student
service learning hours. Here are some ways to get involved:

*Montgomery County’s MLK Day of Service Multi-Project Event & Volunteer
Fair*: Monday, Jan. 15, 1-3 pm, Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference
Center (5701 Marinelli Road, North Bethesda). Participate in your choice of
dozens of family-friendly service projects addressing a range of issues,
including packaging food for the hungry, crafting costumes for kids in
hospitals, making dog toys for area shelters, creating hand warmers for the
homeless, and writing letters to seniors and troops. There will also be a
volunteer fair where you can talk with local nonprofits and government
agencies about their missions and year-round volunteer needs. Sign up —or
just show up! Get more details here

*Additional MLK Day of Service Project Sites*: Monday, Jan. 15, 9-11 am in
and 10 am-12 noon in Silver Spring
Space is very limited at both of these project sites, which will each
feature several service projects. Click the link for each location for more
details and to sign up (if still available).

*Manna Food Drive*: Saturday & Sunday, Jan. 13-14, 11 am-5 pm, at Giant
Food Stores throughout Montgomery County. Encourage grocery store shoppers
to contribute nonperishables to a food drive sponsored by Manna Food
Center, which helps to feed the hungry in our community. Sign up here:

*Montgomery Parks Volunteer Projects*: Saturday, Sunday & Monday, Jan.
13-15, at parks and nature centers throughout the county. Help with park
and stream cleanups, nature center activities, and weeding events. Groups
may even be able to design their own volunteer projects. Get more details

*Even More Ways to Volunteer*: Saturday, Sunday & Monday, Jan. 13-15—and
beyond! Check the Montgomery County Volunteer Center’s volunteer
opportunity calendar for additional
ways to volunteer in January and all year.
