Field Day
May 15 @ 8:30 pm – 10:45 pm

Field Day is almost here! Field Day wraps up a great year of achievement in a variety of physical education objectives. We downplay the competitive aspects of Field Day and emphasize success and a sense of accomplishment for every student.

Field Day will be on Thursday, May 15, 9:30-11:45 AM (rain date is May 28). Please mark your calendars. It is important that your children dress appropriately for physical activities. This means wearing loose clothing, athletic shoes and sun block. We encourage students to bring a water bottle that they can refill at the water fountain.

Thank you for your continued support of the Bells Mill Physical Education Program. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me or Mr. Romans. I hope to see you cheering on your children on Field Day.

[Cancelled] Walk to School Day
Oct 10 @ 9:00 am – 9:30 am

Walk to School Day update from Mrs. O: After receiving feedback from our school leadership team and many families in the community, we have decided to cancel our Fall Walk to School Day event. The upcoming week already has many planned events that cannot be changed. In addition, with school pictures being taken that day, there was concern about students not looking their best following the walk. We appreciate your understanding of this change. With that said, we encourage our families who live close enough to the school to celebrate this day by either walking or biking to school.

Our annual event for Walk to School Day has been rescheduled for October 10, 2018. This occurred to be aligned with the MCPS Bike and Walk to School Day.

Halloween Parade
Oct 31 @ 9:45 am

Halloween Parade and Party Changes for this year.  This year our Leadership Team has met and discussed how to maintain safety at school during our Halloween celebration.  We will be holding our annual Halloween parade first thing in the morning on Oct. 31. The children may come to school wearing their costumes this year.  Please do not send in any weapons or other props. Those can be saved for Trick or Treating that evening.  We will begin the parade around 10:00 (or even a little before)  The parade route will have all classes exiting the building at the back doors, walking on the sidewalk to the basketball court where they will exit the blacktop area and follow the pathway towards Georgetown Hill, then coming down the pathway and cutting back through our parking lot by the stairs and into the front entrance.  All families are invited to attend the morning parade. We want parents to park on the street and then position along the route to see the parade. Once the children return to the building it will be a day of instruction. We are asking that we keep the visitors to the party at a minimum this year to enable us to keep a manageable number of visitors in the building.  Set up for parties will be at 2:00 pm with the party beginning at 2:30 pm. (no costumes during the parties) The Leadership Team has established the number of parents to support the parties at 4 which still will result in well over 100 visitors to the building. I know that change is difficult for all, but, hope you can support us in this change as it is truly coming out of the need to maintain a safe environment for all.  If you will be donating goodies for the parties and are unable to attend in the afternoon, you may drop them off at the main office and we will make sure the items make it to the classrooms. There will be an alternative activity for those children who do not celebrate Halloween(both during the parade and the parties).

Bells Mill Elementary School Reunion – 50 Years of Excellence at Bells Mill
May 23 @ 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Please plan on joining our school family for an evening of sharing old memories and making new ones as we celebrate 50 Years of Excellence at Bells Mill. We have food trucks that will be ready to begin serving dinner at 5:00 pm with picnic tables set up on the basketball court. Holy Crepes Gourmet Food Truck, CAPMAC, and Carmen’s Ice will be on site to provide an evening dinner for your family starting at 5:00 pm. Our student performances will begin at 6:00 pm and the building will be open for touring. Please plan on coming to have dinner with your school family, enjoy our chamber string group, our brand new jazz band, and every grade level celebrating the friendships we have here at school. Share your favorite memories and make some new ones on this special evening. Come see the incredible artwork Mrs. Park has finished with every staff and student in our building, and be part of one that is being created that night. The building will be open for visits until 8:00 in the evening. I hope you will pass this information to your neighbors. We truly want to celebrate our community this special evening.

——
There will be a Bells Mill School Reunion with an Open House and planned student performances. We have reserved several food trucks for the evening and all are welcome to come and have their supper on the lawn and visit through the building seeing memorabilia, listening to children performing and take part in a school wide art project that will be hung as a permanent part of our building. We are also asking all families, students and alumni share their fondest memory on a special Bear Memory paper.
