- · Attention parents of 3rd, 4th and 5th Graders, your child will take the Maryland State Assessments (MSA) in March and April . We encourage students to eat a healthy breakfast, come to school on time, and be well-rested for testing. Testing will last all morning. Students who are absent due to illness will have the opportunity to make up all or part of the tests. Parents, please refrain from making appointments for your students during these important dates:

- · The Bells Mill Science Fair is April 4, 7:00-8:00 pm, in the APR. The Science Fair is non-competitive and open to all students in Grades K-5. Participation is voluntary. Science Fair Help Night will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 6:30-7:00 pm, in the Media Center. Students and parents who are interested in participating in the Bells Mill Science Fair are encouraged to attend this session to help you select an age- appropriate project and give you simple examples for science fair success. Check the PTA website for more details.
- · Get ready for the Bells Mill Stars of Tomorrow Talent Show. If you have a talent that you would like to share, then you should consider auditioning for the talent show. Everyone who auditions will be included in the show. Due to the popularity of this event, this year we are having two performances.
Grades K-2 will perform on Friday, March 7, 7:00 pm, with auditions on Tuesday, March 4, 3:30-5:00 pm, and mandatory rehearsal on Thursday, March 6, 3:30-5:00 pm.
Grades 3-5 will perform on Friday, March 21, 7:00 pm, with auditions on Tuesday, March 18, 3:30-5:00 pm, and mandatory rehearsal on Thursday, March 20, 3:30-5:00 pm.
No transportation is provided. Students should bring an afternoon snack to the auditions and rehearsals. Registration/permission forms went home in backpacks. Questions, contact LaTisha Gasaway at [email protected] .
- · Dealing with a Strong-Willed Child is a FREE workshop offered by YMCA Youth & Family Services, Monday, March 24, 7:00-9:00 pm, Silver Spring Library, 8901 Colesville Rd., Silver Spring. Learn how to turn your child’s strong characteristics into positive attributes and make day-to-day family living more tranquil.
- · Differing Discipline Styles: Who’s in Charge? is a FREE workshop sponsored by YMCA Youth & Family Services, Wednesday, March 26, 7:00-9:00 pm, Davis Library, 6400 Democracy Blvd., Bethesda. Many children have more than one caregiver. This can be confusing for the kids and frustrating for the adults. This workshop will explore ways to come to agreement. Open to parents, grandparents, babysitters and other caregivers.
- · We enjoyed a great Black History Celebration on Friday evening. Congratulations to our current and former students who provided the entertainment. Many thanks to the families who prepared the delicious meal and to Minds In Motion for organizing the event. Thank you for helping us celebrate the diversity of Bells Mill.
- · MCPS 2013-2014 Schools at a Glance is a report containing information about enrollment, staffing, facilities, programs, outcome measures, and personnel costs for each school. It is accessible to the community at www.montgomeryschools.org/departments/regulatoryaccountability/glance .
- · Registration is now open for Summer 2014 Youth Programs at Montgomery College. Over 200 full and half-day programs covering a wide range of topics are held at all three campuses. Programs run for eight weeks from June 16 – August 8, 2014. REGISTER NOW online, by fax, by mail, or come to the Rockville Campus, Campus Center, Rm. 220. Classes fill quickly.
