  • The leadership of Montgomery County and MCPS are celebrating the Month of the Young Child in April.  The theme emphasizes the importance of education for our youngest citizens.

  • Again this year we are offering Camp Bells Mill for our students entering Grades 1-5 and Kinder-Camp for students entering Kindergarten, July 7-25, 8:30 am to noon.  The cost is $450 for 15 half-day sessions that will be taught by our own great teachers.  The program offers fun activities in science, technology, arts and crafts, and physical education.  Math and reading are incorporated in the activities.  This is a great way for your student to have fun while being introduced to next year’s curriculum.  Watch backpacks for registration, or visit the Bells Mill home page.

  • It’s time to order 2013-2014 yearbooks! Parents may log on to ybpay.lifetouch.com and enter your job # 11371914 to order a yearbook through a secure site exclusive to BMES. The cost is $24. Yearbooks are a wonderful way to remember this fantastic school year! Supplies are limited. So please order soon.

  • Attention Gr. 5 parents, your child will take the Maryland State Assessments (MSA) in Science on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 1 and 2.  Students should eat a healthy breakfast, come to school on time, and be well-rested for testing.  Testing will last all morning.  Students who are absent due to illness will make up all or part of the tests.
  • Spring break is Monday, April 14, through Monday, April 21.  If spring travel plans require your student to be absent from school before or after break, please remember to notify the office via phone or email.

  • Attention kindergarten parents, there is no school for kindergarteners on Thursday and Friday, April 10 and 11.  On these two days we will conduct Kindergarten Orientation for next year’s enrollees.

  • All students brought home a blue form that requests your school plans for next year.  It is important for staffing that we know how many students will return to Bells Mill.  If you have not already done so, please complete the form and return it to your child’s teacher.  If you do not have a form, please call the office, and we will send one home in your child’s backpack.

  • At this time of year maintenance personnel begin the process of converting schools from heating to air conditioning.  There will be no heat in our building after April 22.  Please keep the weather forecast in mind when dressing your child for school.  Layers are recommended.

  • Rockville Science Day is Sunday, April 6, noon-5:00 pm on the Rockville Campus of Montgomery College, rain or shine.  Admission and parking are FREE.  The event will take place rain or shine. Over 90 exhibits are featured–live animals, robots, nanotechnology projects, HAM radio operators, telescopes, Songs of Science, chemistry, fossils, mobile planetarium shows and rocket building. Rockville Science Day is the Official Satellite Event that opens a month of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) that ends with the FREE Science & Engineering Festival, April 26-27, 2014, at the Washington Convention Center.
