Updates from PTA, County News, Outstanding Teacher Awards

Super-storms and conference days aside, the PTA has had an exciting past couple weeks at BMES!

Thanks to all the parents who have remembered to track reading logs and to Haylie Iseman and Dana Loube for coordinating our 6th Annual Read-a-Thon. BINGO night was a blast — thanks to Debbie Obon for organizing and to the bakers for yummy treats.  Thanks to those who came out to Zoes for the “Restaurant Day” yesterday, and to Cristin Caine and Ashley Seasholtz for organizing another fun event. And finally, thanks to those who attended last week’s PTA meeting and speaker. We hope you enjoyed the topic — we intend to get more speakers and welcome your feedback for topics of interest. Our next meeting is Tuesday, December 4th at 7 p.m.

Below are a couple of county-wide news items:

  • Thanks to a successful petition (that many of you may have signed), the County Council voted unanimously to approve the Technology Initiative.  They voted to appropriate $2.042 million in federal E-Rate rebates to fund the purchases of Promethean Boards for elementary schools and wireless technology for all schools in the county.

  • All of our teachers are outstanding, but have you seen something particularly amazing in your child’s teacher? If you’d like to nominate a BMES teacher for a prestigous award, click here to download info on the Outstanding Teacher Award process. All entries are due 1/11/13.
