Nathalie Babou, Liam’s mom, is thrilled to serve as the Bells Mill NAACP Parent Representative.

The NAACP Parent Council plays a vital role in advocating for the educational needs of African American students within Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS). Responsibilities include advocating for equity, facilitating community engagement, connecting families with resources, and influencing policies to promote student success.

Strategies to Support African American Students: To enhance parent involvement and support African American students, the NAACP Parent Council is implementing several strategies:

Enhanced Communication Channels: Regular updates and accessible platforms to keep parents informed.
Cultural Competency Training: Educators receive training to better support diverse student needs.
Family Engagement Workshops: Empowering parents with skills and resources to support their child’s education.
Community Partnerships: Collaborating with local organizations to expand support networks for families.

October 16 Meeting Summary
The NAACP Parents Council meeting on October 16, 2024, focused on crucial topics to support the educational journey of students, particularly those from underrepresented communities. Led by Byron Johns, Chair of the Education Committee, the meeting addressed key areas including literacy enhancement through library services, strategies to improve student performance in mathematics and gifted education, and utilizing Parent View accounts for tracking student progress.
