PTA Weekly Message

Last Thursday, Bells Mill ES and the Bells Mill PTA were thrilled to welcome Jamaal “Mr. Root” Collier for an engaging and interactive assembly. Mr. Root introduced our students and staff to the history of hip-hop, Black history in Maryland, freestyling, beatboxing, and the power of speaking and listening. He even incorporated phonics, rhythm, and movement—getting our youngest learners jumping, counting, and fully immersed in the experience.

During the Q&A session, a student eagerly asked if he was on Spotify—and the answer is yes! You can find his music by searching for Jamaal “Mr. Root” Collier or Black Root on Spotify.

It was an unforgettable event that blended education, culture, and creativity. A week later, some students are still beatboxing!

Thank You to Our Amazing Volunteers!

Saturday was a fantastic night for our students at Candyland Bingo! A huge thank you to all the families who joined us and to Shara Reiter, Lis Patterson, and our incredible volunteers, and of course Ms. Cubik and our 5th grade Bingo callers for making this event so much fun.

We’re still looking for volunteers for the rest of the school year and are already planning for next year. If you’re interested in helping out, please email [email protected]—we’d love to have you!
