Tips for Parents: Raising Resilient Learners in an AI World (MCCPTA Technology Committee)

Are you concerned about how AI may be impacting your kids but don’t know where to start? Or are you just curious about AI but don’t know much about it?

The Brookings Institution has simple parent tipsheets on a number of helpful AI topics, such as “What is Generative AI and What’s at Stake for Kids?” and “Helping Kids Question What AI Tells Them.” These provide an easy-to-understand introduction to some of the main issues with AI and learning.

For those in search of a deeper dive, listen to this interview with Rebecca Winthrop, who leads the Center for Universal Education at Brookings and co-wrote a report called, “A New Direction for Students in an AI World.”

AI awareness for parents and students is critical, as currently many students have ready access to unvetted AI tools on their school Chromebooks. We invite families to share their experiences and observations about these AI tools directly with us at technology@mccpta.org.
