County-Wide Information for Parents (from MCCPTA): GT Info

The following county-wide programs may be of interest to our parents:

1) MCCPTA GT Liaison Training/Parent Information Night –Tuesday, October 147:30-9:30 pm

Location: Carver Educational Services Center Auditorium, 850 Hungerford Drive, Rockville.

Meet Meredith Casper, Director of MCPS’ Division of Accelerated and Enriched Instruction, and Ruth Green, Director of Enriched and Innovative Programs 

Presentations will include:
  • Overview of the magnet application process and how to support parents at your schools in navigating the process.
  • Overview of opportunities for enriched and accelerated instruction in local (non-magnet) schools at elementary, middles, and high school levels.
  • An update on the rollout of Curriculum 2.0, including the Compacted Grades Math 4/5  and Compacted Grades Math 5/6  classes.
  • Common Core State Standards and gifted education.
  • PARCC assessments and gifted education.
  • Standards-Based Report Card and gifted education.

This is also an opportunity for parents to help set the MCCPTA Gifted Child Committee’s priorities for the rest of this year by bringing your own experiences, ideas, and concerns to the table.
