We had a wonderful general meeting of the 2019-2010 Bells Mill PTA last night. Thanks to all who attended! We again had a great showing of parents and teachers!
For those who could not make it, here is a quick recap:
- We officially adopted South Lake Elementary as our sister school, after a successful Thanksgiving food drive that exceeded all expectations!
- We also passed two general resolutions at the meeting:
- Added a budget line item of $200 for expenses related to our new sister school.
- Amended the budget line item “Speakers for Meetings” to “Meeting Expenses”, to allow that budget item to cover other meeting expenses (e.g., refreshments)
- Ms. Abramson gave a thorough and informative demonstration, on the school’s Chromebooks, of the Benchmark reading curriculum that the school introduced this year.
- We discussed the results of the family surveys as part of the initiative to qualify BMES as a School of Excellence.
- Renewing the call for volunteers! Several events still need volunteers to help out, including the Read-A-Thon, STEM Night, the Talent Show, International Night, and the end-of-year BASH. The PTA has a sufficient budget to make these events a success, but we need your help to coordinate! Please get in touch with Devin or Georgia if you can help out, or email [email protected].
- We had a brief discussion regarding parent-teacher conferences. Please note that MCPS will provide interpreters to assist with parent-teacher conference, if you can provide sufficient advance notice to your child’s teacher. Please spread the word!
- Raymond Bell gave a helpful overview of the pending boundary study being conducted by the Montgomery County Board of Education.
